Following on from the success of Masternaut’s national 'Drive for Life' safe driving campaign, we’re now giving you the opportunity to run your very own competition at your workplace.
Exclusively for users of Masternaut's vehicle tracking solution, running a Drive for Life competition is a fantastic way to raise awareness of driver safety and engages your employees in helping to improve their driving habits.
Safer driving is good for everyone. It reduces the likelihood of your vehicles being involved in accidents which bring disruption and unplanned expense. Safe driving is also greener and it lowers your fuel costs too.
Who is the competition for?
The competition is open to all Masternaut customers who use the vehicle tracking solution. Drive for Life is for everyone, no matter how big or small your vehicle fleet.
Whether or not you have existing driver training / duty of care initiatives in place, it’s a great way to raise the profile of safe driving and really engage with people!
When does it launch?
You can start running your own Drive for Life competition straight away – we've put together a pack containing everything you need to successfully run your scheme.
How does it work?
- You'll judge your own Drive for Life competition using information from the GreenerFleet tool which is part of your Masternaut tracking solution. All customers have access to GreenerFleet which provides you with a range of information and tools to help you run a greener and more cost efficient business.
- The GreenerFleet system automatically scores each of your drivers, allowing you to easily identify the best performers against a range of factors. To judge the competition, you will simply need to login to access the Drive for Life competition page. You can then pick the best performing drivers as your winners.
- We've created a Drive for Life competition pack to help you run a successful driver safety campaign. It contains everything you need to get started including marketing materials such as emails, posters and certificates to help you promote
your scheme successfully. We even

Why take part?
Nine people die everyday on UK roads. Commercial vehicles, such as trucks, vans, coaches and buses account for 1 in 5 of all road deaths, or 20 road deaths each week – yet commercial vehicles account for only 1 in 50 of all vehicles on our roads. Your internal Drive for Life competition will help you focus your drivers on ‘putting safety first’ – and will identify those whose driving attitude and behaviour ranks as best when judged against their peers.
Educating your employees about safe driving is good for business – keeping your team safe, avoiding the costs, downtime and legal implications of accidents and ensuring that you maintain your company’s reputation.
Here are some statistics about driving at work from The Department for Transport:
- There are an estimated 3 million company cars on the roads and roughly 1 in 3 will be involved in an accident each year.
- Company drivers who drive more than 80% of their annual mileage on work related journeys have more than 50% more injury accidents than similar drivers who do no work related mileage.
- The annual risk of dying in a road accident while driving for business reasons is significantly greater than the risk of dying as a result of all other workplace accidents.
- Every week around 200 road deaths and serious injuries involves someone at work.
- About 300 people are killed each year as a result of drivers falling asleep at the wheel. About 4 in 10 tiredness-related crashes involve someone driving a commercial vehicle.
- Work-related road accidents are the biggest cause of work-related accidental death. Between 800 and 1000 people are killed annually in work-related road traffic accidents compared to approximately 250 fatalities due to accidents notified annually under the Reporting of Injuries Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR).
- Business drivers have collision rates that are 30 – 40% higher than those of private drivers.
